Mona Reeva - Green Mountain Artistry
Artist Statement
I began my study of jewelry design and construction in 2005 following a long career in human services. As I have been a life long photographer and chronicler of family, friends and world travels the transition into a more formal study of photography was a natural. In addition I learned to knit early in my life and have again taken up this craft. Work, travel and family experiences bring much to my ongoing and evolving creative process.
My primary reasons for embarking on a second career in jewelry making, photography and fiber arts was to have fun, continue studying, and enjoy and share my creative process. I have had a lifelong love affair with learning and continue to take classes to enrich my knowledge and skills. I have studied at The Crucible in Oakland, Bead Shows, Academy of Art in San Francisco, and at local bead stores, where my focus is on learning to work with metals and more recently, with precious metal clay in jewelry making. A member of the Berkeley Camera Club a number of my entries have won in competitions. I have exhibited in Berkeley and in El Cerrito in group and individual shows.
This website, www.greenmountainartistry.com, showcases much of my work and creative accomplishments. I periodically send newsletters that highlight new creations and previously worn jewelry that are now available.
My jewelry includes necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Each piece is unique and one of a kind. While some pieces may be similar nothing is ever duplicated. I keep a complete inventory of every item made. Current design themes include used objects and musical instruments in jewelry. I also offer used jewelry that I obtain at various places that I think are good buys and pass those along at excellent prices.
I sell a limited number of any photographic image. Using some of my winning and other special images that exhibit striking color and/or design, I create photo note cards. Current focus includes florals, nature and creative images.
Having learned how to knit from my mother when a young girl, I have been knitting for a long time with periodic interludes. In the last few years I began to knit scarves for gift giving and for sale and have enjoyed finding special yarns and being creative with designs.
My studio is open at least twice yearly and by appointment. Please contact me for a private showing or to discuss personal design in my creative process.
